6 Mile Buck
The Green mile?? 8 mile?? How about 6 mile!! That’s what I’m calling this buck that was taken by Kim who is one of our friends/clients!! (Kim called him Poseidon due to the rivers and creeks we had to navigate) A little recap!! Sunday afternoon November 14th is where we start!! I’m pinned in my stand by a sow and 3 Cubs as I’m waiting for my son Josh to come get me! Nothing I did would get them to leave! I get a call from Kevin saying he needs help tracking. I tell him I’m in a situation now, but be there ASAP! Before Josh and l get there this buck crosses the river! And Kevin goes for an icy swim (not intentionally! Falls off a down tree! The river was 6-7 feet deep so he went all in! Head lamp is probably still glowing on the bottom of the river!) Josh managed to cross the river and the rest of us go around 1.5 miles to intercept the trail!! Ahh success we’ve found Josh and the buck is still bleeding!! 4 hours and a total of 5.5 miles later we pull out! Track is over! But wait!! Plot twist!! I headed in to hunt tonight (November 16th) and there is a camper 100 yards from my stand! So, I decided to see if there is still blood in the snow!! Gut feeling tells me to go look for this deer! Pushed him too far for to long for him to survive! Picked up blood (thank you snow) here’s where 6 mile comes in! We tracked this deer 5.5 miles on Sunday! I tracked him for another 1/2 mile and boom! Found him! Pointed up and gave a big thanks to Fred Bear!! As always!! Meat was no good unfortunately! So, I caped him out and headed to the truck. This deer was shot 1 mile north of Rockdam and was recovered roughly 2 miles south of Rockdam! I feel that I’ve earned my expert tracking badge today! The hardest I’ve ever had to work for a deer! Now you all know 6 mile and his story!! Congratulations Kim! He’s a tank!! FYI this deer was hit great! Also waited 1.5 hours to start the track!! Not sure how he survived that long!
